Visiting Wynyard Hall Gardens and the Glass House restaurant

[ad_1]

One of the most beautiful walled gardens in Tees Valley and Northeast, a visit to the Wynyard Hall gardens should be on their list of things to do! Here is why!

In recent years, particularly since COVID-19, I have been exploring much more of our local area and I am pleased to say that it has been a joy to discover how charming is really the northeast of England. I have been visiting the area regularly since 2009, but it was not until 2019 that we officially establish roots and we called this corner of England our house.

A place that I love to visit the family are the Wynyard Hall Gardens, part of the largest farm of Wynyard Hall that has to be one of the most beautiful properties and corridors in the area; It is an extremely popular wedding place for a good reason. The gardens themselves are lovely and are a great day, especially when you experience dinner at the Glass House restaurant.

This guide will exhibit the Wynyard Hall gardens and the Glass House restaurant and, hopefully, will inspire you to visit when you are looking for something to do.

Wynyard Hall Gardans & The Glass House Restaurant

Wynyard Hall Gardens

The gardens in Wynyard Hall are surely some of the best in the northeast and are a great day for everyone. Those with families, which now include me, will enjoy a visit to the gardens when combined with Woodland Walk and their excellent game areas.

First, we will focus on the gardens that can be found a little away from the main Wynyard Hall.

Located within the private lands of 120 acres, there is an impressive Georgian walled garden that can be one of the best in the northeast. Drawed from 1822, the garden was initially designed by the famous landscape of William Gilpin, but it was Lady Theresa Londnderry who recreated the gardens in 1912 in a style similar to what we see today. The gardens were restored and Network developed faithfully in 2015 and 2016.

Within the Wynyard Hall gardens, you will find perfectly organized sections that contain different types of plants and gardening styles. There is a rose garden full of more than 3,000 roses by David Austin, a wild garden, a white garden (although full of plants that are not only white but also yellow and pink), a garden of pillars inspired by walled gardens moorings and Greek and Roman courtyards, as well as lush edges full of plants of all types of climates. The gardener’s cabin is a small charming building and you will notice the bell on one of the doors that used to sound at the beginning and end of each working day.

Just outside the walled gardens is the edible garden where you guessed it, all kinds of fruits and vegetables are grown, but, what is even better, is that the same product is served inside the architectally charming Victorian glass house and is a restaurant.

Opening hours

7 days a week-10 am to 4 pm

Farm and cafeteria store

At the entrance of the gardens, you will find the farm store full of artisanal food and drink of local origin, including products grown here in Wynyard Hall. What I think is fantastic is that many of the products sold here in the farm store are obtained from suppliers to less than 35 miles from the farm. Whether you are looking to stock up at home or looking for gifts, there will almost surely be something for you here. The small coffee inside the farm store serves a great coffee, cakes and sandwiches, and can be carried out to enjoy inside the gardens themselves.

The Glass House Restaurant

The Glass House restaurant deserves a visit, whether you visit the gardens in Wynyard Hall or not. Honestly, this is one of my favorite restaurants and I could not believe the quality of the food offered. The equipment here uses abundant products literally cultivated inside the eye room from your table in the garden. Therefore, the menus frequently change with the stations and what is being grown in front of you. Even if we leave the food aside for a moment, the glass house is inside an absolutely impressive Victorian greenhouse; There are not too many places so beautiful where you can also eat so well.

When we ate here, without children, we make sure to make the most of it. Of course, that probably means that we (we read I) we went a bit for the board (as I did in the refuge in Manchester for my birthday!)

We went for a series of small dishes to share; Think of squid, cured meats, olives and focaccia, triple cooking chips and a sweet potato plate. The menu changes regularly but here is the Lunch samples menu and Sample dinner menu.

Opening hours

Wednesday to Saturday – 11 am to 11 pm
Sunday – 12pm at 6:30 pm

The dogs are welcome inside the bar of the glass house, simply not in the main restaurant.

Nearby walks

There are other walks inside the Wynyard Hall farm that will see you wandering by the cable of the legendary racing horse, Hambeltonian, which marks its place of burial. The racing horse was owned by Sir Henry Vane Tempest, who inherited the farm in 1792.

There is an official path, the Wynyard Woodland Park, which is part of the Castle Eden catwalk (a disuse railway line). There is a great perfect adventure patio for children and a small charming tea room at the Thorpe Thewles station station. There is free parking and postal code TS21 3jg will take it right there.
