A trip to Marsden Rock in the northeast of England

[ad_1]

Being no northeast, there are many places that I still don’t have to discover and explore; Marsden Rock is an excellent example. I am sure that many northeast people are aware of the beautiful coast between South Shields and Seaham. Marsden Rock was on my list of places to visit now that my approach is purely in my local area. When we visited, we were lucky with a glorious climate and a relatively quiet beach that means that Chester could go as crazy as I would like.

Marsden Rock

Marsden Rock is located a few miles south of South Shields (east of Newcastle) and consists of, you guessed, a huge 100 feet rock in the sea. The rock itself can be reached during the low tide, but that was not possible when we were unfortunately. The rock is not only an attraction in itself, but I will affirm that this has to be one of the best beaches in England. The white, soft sand and the high cliffs that block the wind literally transported me to foreign coasts; With reminiscence of Mediterranean holidays. Not only that, I made a comment from a friend who thought my photos were of much more famous sea batteries in Australia!

If this beach were on the southern coast of England, there is no doubt that it would be in all travel magazines and everyone would know. However, perhaps that is part of its beauty; It is in the northeast and apparently it is bleak in the north.

The other outstanding aspects are the Marsden GrottoA pub just on the beach with the most unusual elevation axis, as well as the fact that Marsden Rock is the home of thousands of sea birds. This is the forced visit beach for almost all.

I mentioned the elevator that takes it to the pub, but that is only for customers and presumably for people who cannot climb up and down by the (very) steep steps. I forgot how many steps there were, but says 130 on Wikipedia, so it is not exactly a walk in the park.

Speaking of walking, the coast around this area is beautiful, so why not head south and walk the short distance along the cliffs to the souter lighthouse, the first lighthouse in the world that feeds with electricity?

Key information

We parked in the Marsden Beach parking lot in NE34 7AH and use the Pay By Telephone application. I was pleasantly surprised to see how cheap was the parking lot; 1p per minute during the first hour and then £ 1 from then on or £ 5 all day. There are public bathrooms right at the top of the steps that were quite impressive considering that they are public!

Get me if you have been in Marsden Rock before and, if not, hopefully, this has been somehow to generate your interest in visiting. I am still on a mission as I keep saying to show that it is really not bleak in the north!
