April 9 to April 15
New Italy to the Springbrook National Park
Wow, these weeks are being full. The east coast of Australia can be traveling in less than a month, but there is much to do and do, we will take two! This week we headed to Byron Bay for four nights. This is the only place where we could not allow us to camp freely; There are signals everywhere that say that fines could exceed $ 3,000. We decided on the Discovery Parks camp, since we only had to pay for three nights instead of four. A bargain for the area at $ 37.50 per night worked. The only inconvenience was that it was a 2 km walk in Byron. I was quite excited by Byron Bay, but since this place is worldwide, I thought I would be full of rough backpacks. I thought it would be full of small stores that sell dreams of dreams, incense and psychic readings. How wrong it would be. New Italy’s trip took us through Ballina around 8 am the worst of getting up with the sun is to forget that everyone else is at work, so we are trapped in the traffic of the peak hour! We take a rest of stagnation traffic to admire the great shrimp of Ballina. The Coast Road from Ballina to Byron Bay was what this road trip is about. We had the low windows, the music exploded with the shiny blue sea down to our right. Our first stop at Byron Bay was the Lighthouse of Cape Byron and the easternmost point of continental Australia. As always, I was really scathing and managed to catch a parking lot right at the top of the promontory under the lighthouse. Fortunately, our NSW National Park pass covered the $ 8 parking fees that you must even pay if you are there for five minutes![easy-image-collage id=1653]After an icy first night, we decided to spend our time in Byron Bay as if we were on vacation and we had plenty of money (even if only). We jumped from the Beach Hotel to the Balcony Bar to Main Street Burgers, we had healthy smoothies in Combi, we ate pizzas at the tree house, we bought clothes and passed a fortune in five -star byron in Byron. We planned to see the farmer market menu in Byron in Byron, where I could have two courses for $ 49. Once we were there, we really didn’t like it, so they made up of $ 18 nuts and olives followed by sirloin in the bone we share. The resort hotel is located in the rainforest with an infinite pool and the walks in the fields to the remote beach. If I could, I would have stayed here for weeks.[easy-image-collage id=1654]Byron Bay was nothing as if he thought it would be. It was much more luxurious, relaxed and “great.” The atmosphere was good. After all that expense, we began to feel bad, so we managed to organize a perfectly located house in Gold Coast; One Saturday, Wednesday and then another Saturday. Therefore, we begin to move north, taking our time in New South Wales so far. However, it would not have been complete without a trip to the apparently infamous city of Nimbin inside. Recommended by so many people, there was no way we could lose this. A kind of Mecca for those in search of the last hippy city; Love and free cannabis. Nimbin went to fame in the 1970s after the famous Famous Aquarium Festival was held here. Many hippies stayed to open organic food stores, smoking cannabis and protesting nearby. In the end, we were a bit disappointed, since it seems to be prepared for tourism now. Among the first ten minutes of arrival, three shaded -looking people had offered me drugs (of all kinds). The original hippies still had their dreadlocks, but they aged badly. Probably due to drugs much harder that are now used. In my opinion, Nimbin was not up to his name and even most stores sold random tourist tat. Of course, there are some decent places, but we end up in less than an hour. Maybe if we had gone to a backpacking trip, it would have been better, but I suppose we will never know.
In Queensland
We cross Queensland on Saturday and even Burleight Heads in Gold Coast for our house. Again, we were trapped in traffic, but this time it turned out to be for something that was worth it. I knew that the Commonwealth games were still lit, but I didn’t realize that we had met the male road race before it had even begun. We leave the truck and prepare to see a few laps. I think the Jamaica and Bermuda runners obtained more applause than anyone! I could immediately tell me that we headed towards the tropics. The tropical jungle is different here with so many palm trees. It was perfect.
Next…
Next week we will explore more from the interior behind the Gold Coast, including the Lamington and Tamborine Mountain National Park before returning to the sea.
