It’s 5:30 am and the alarm sounds for another early start. By the time it arrives at 6:30 am, you are awake, frozen but ready to choose as many plums as it is humanly possible before the heat is activated.
After the house in young people, we headed north to a farm on the outskirts of Orange, where you can camp free and choose plums for $ 2 per box. It doesn’t sound great, but we wanted to earn some money, so we had some fault free expenses in Sydney.
This was the first time that Emma and I worked together and joined to try to fill as many boxes with 8 kg plums as we could. We must have been slow since we only achieved 48 boxes on our first day in approximately eight hours. There were some other people there starting at the same time as us. Two French girls lasted about an hour before leaving and an adequate Australian couple of Lightning Ridge stayed about three days before a crazy argument saw them pack and leave. We spent seven days working flat and down the stairs collecting plums and I worked three hours in the packaging shed and we won $ 700. It is not fantastic, not a minimum wage, but when their jumps are so low, it really doesn’t matter.
We hope we can collect the fruits collection work as we are running out of physical effective and we should, the crossed fingers, pass it through Australia.
