I have always had a desire to create cinematographic videos and vlogs and finally I have found the ideal tool to inspire me; The DJI Osmo Pocket 3. This publication brings together my first impressions and thoughts as I immerse me in a basic cinema.
While I am mainly a photographer and a trip blogger, there has always been something at the bottom of my mind telling me that I need to return to the cinema. Do not be misunderstood, I love photography; It is how it captures the memories of my daily life, my family, my trips and, most importantly, high quality images are what you can find in my travel blog. The photograph and creation of blog posts here keep me extremely busy together with my 9-5 career and be present with my family. Why would I want to add by creating some form of cinematographic videos and trips / photography vlogging to the mixture? I definitely don’t have time for this.
In fact, I tried a YouTube channel in 2017 when we started our trips through Australia, but it was quite difficult with a camera, the Fujifilm X-T2, to change between wanting to capture images and then video at the same time. The point is that I had the whole team, I am talking about filters and gimbals a drone and a Go-Pro, along with a good understanding of the video configuration and the ‘shots’, but I never really click with everything. It was quite difficult to handle my photography and edition while living in a motorhome without adding a video production as well. Sometimes you need to live at the time without worrying about capturing every moment in each imaginable format.
Let’s quickly advance until 2024 and there is much more video content that is difficult not to inspire you to create more. I love cinematographic videos and Vlogs and, despite being extremely nervous, it has been something I planned to get into. I am talking about more YouTube videos than the Tiktok reels and videos, since I have never been great in those. YouTube videos, I hope, allow me to inject more of my personality showing more of me, behind my photograph scene and maybe some cinematographic sockets. This is where the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 enters; I have never seen a package all in one like this and it is the inspiration I needed to show a different side of my trips and my photograph and, in turn, me.
So, without further ado, we will immerse ourselves in my thoughts about the DJI Osmo Pocket 3.
DJI OSMO POCKET 3
My first impressions
I am sure you will have seen the many many YouTube videos citing the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 as the best device to capture all those moments in motion. Honestly, I am completely on board and I agree with almost each and every one of the words that those reviewers say. First, the Osmo Pocket 3 looks an incredible product; You know this is good just looking at it. The movement of the screen to light it, the gimbal reassuring click that moves to the place, only makes you want to use and document everything. This is exactly the product I need to make some adequate videos; Whether I am recording my trips, my family or sharing photography advice, it is simply asked to be used.
Despite being lying recovering from rupturing my Achilles in recent months, I have not prevented me from grabbing how to use the Dji Osmo Pocket 3. I am still a great beginner (so you will have to assume me), but I am excited to follow this trip. The footage that I have been able to capture so far has been incredible and buttery.
I have already talked about the design, but the size of the Osmo Pocket 3 is another outstanding feature, it is small and literally adjusts to your hand. Given its size, you are discreet when filming, nobody really makes fun of a eyelid. However, I would say that I prefer that the battery handle accumulate at the bottom, since it is much safer when it takes it around.
I love the active track function. Monitoring of your face with the camera in front of you is brilliant for Vlogging and, if you need to follow something else, double touch on that beautiful touch screen and look while Cardán’s tracks.
Other things that I love about the camera are fast charging (80% in 16 minutes!), The quality of little light and the quality of the microphone. Over time, I am sure that I can immerse myself more in the pros and cons, but I already have some discomfort. I have constantly scared that I am going to break the cardan even when I use the hard protective housing, it is not as pocket as I might think and I do not think that I feel comfortable simply throwing it into my camera bag. It is not waterproof, so soon as the weather becomes worse, you will have to stop filming! Another thing that I have noticed and I would like to find a way to use it is that, if you configure custom configurations for a variety of different scenarios (for example, it has customized configurations configured for normal filming and after slow camera), the automatic switch between horizontal and vertical does not seem to start. Unlike automatic change at 3K vertical! Nothing that prevents me from exciting me a lot with this camera!

Video configuration
Focus mode – Continuous
Gimbal mode – follow
Professional mode
Table speed – 24 fps
Setting speed – 1/50
ISO-AUTO 50-1600
White Balance Auto
Color mode: 10 normal bits
Sharpness –2
Noise reduction – -1
Video compression – Hevc
In order for these video settings to work correctly, with the shutter speed after the 180 ° rule (where the shutter speed is twice its frame speed), you will need ND filters. Neutral density filters limit or block the amount of light that enters the camera and, therefore, reaches the sensor. Personally, I use the facts by K&F, since they absolutely do not affect the colors captured and are thin enough to leave the filter when the cardan becomes its ‘off’ position. Have this Four packages that include ND4, ND8, ND16 and ND32 filters and usually use the ND16 filter for most scenarios in daylight. It is also easy to change an ND filter thanks to the magnetic nature of the filters. For example, I will change to a lighter ND filter when I know that I will get shots to reduce speed later, since with a growing frame speed the shutter speed increases (for example, firing at 60 fps would require a 1/120 shutter).
One thing we have to talk about is completely avoidable through the correct configuration is ‘flicker’. I am almost certain that you will have seen those annoying Instagram reels where fluorescent lights blink like crazy and simply due to the camera that needs to be synchronized with the electrical frequency of the area you are visiting. In North America and some parts of Japan (for example, Tokyo), the electrical frequency is 60Hz, while in Europe and Asia are 50Hz. The easiest way to do it is to slightly adjust the speed of its shutter to align. Shot in 24 FPS (which is actually 23.98 fps) and, therefore, I would use 1/50 as my shutter speed in Europe and Asia (including Osaka in Japan) and changed the 4/60 shutter speed in North America and Tokyo, for example. Some people can adjust the table speed (and therefore, in turn, the shutter speed) but I prefer to keep the frame speed constant. For example, moving to Japan presents a unique peculiarity in which there are two different electrical frequencies, so ought Be a matter of simply changing the shutter speed as cities change. Maybe we should go see it?
Creator’s combo
Yes, like me, you are completely new in the world Vlogging, the Creator combo Maybe offers the most ideal configuration. In addition to the OSMO 3 pocket, wrist strap, hard protective cover, a small handle and load cable, you will find the DJI 2 microphone, the windshield, the clip magnet, the large angle lens, the battery handle, the mini tripod and the soft box. The microphone, the battery handle and the mini tripod make the additional initial disbursement worth it.
I went with the creative combo and, honestly, I am on the moon with him. Over time, I know this will help me greatly improve as I surrounded me deeply in the world of vlogging. I guess it’s time to get used to the sound of my own voice! Annoying, although I can’t find the wrist strap, so that is something that I will need to ask for soon, since you are only at a small trip to tear this delicate camera on the floor.

Final thoughts
Ok, that was much more than I thought, but I hope it would help someone out there. I am really enjoying going out, return to trips and document them in a completely different way. I worry that maybe I can no longer concentrate on the photograph and constantly change between capturing videos and photos could take part of the fun. We’ll see!
Anyway, if you are interested, they continue and we will surely have fun! Let me have all your tips too and what you want to see from me on YouTube!
