This is my visual guide for street photography in Kyoto, once the ancient capital of Japan. Kyoto is where you will find a much more traditional Japan with historical rooms, thousands of bright red torii doors, golden temples and high bamboo forests.
After our 15 -day trip through Japan, this publication increases where we leave it; Leaving Osaka on an abnormally late train north to Kyoto. I was very excited to visit Kyoto especially to see the most ‘traditional’ side of Japan. We spent four nights here reviewing the best known sites, such as the Aashyama Bamboo Forest, Fushimi Inari Taisha and the Gion district, but we also find a lot of time to explore calmer streets.
My series ‘On The Streets’ takes us through the world with short publications focused only on my unique travel and street photography style. The series will never be complete, but here is a look where I have covered so far:
Ok, now is the time for a virtual vagabundo through the streets of Kyoto. This is my opinion about street photography in Kyoto with the Fujifilm X-T5.
Street photography in Kyoto
The details
We spent four nights in total in Kyoto; Three nights at the Forza Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi Hotel, which was quite well located before spending a night at the M’s hotel before taking Shinkansen to Tokyo.
Kyoto was probably my favorite place to photograph the three cities we visited in Japan. I have barely scratched the surface with Japan, but Kyoto had that exclusive historical Japanese sensation within its architecture, its unumptive sanctuaries and Buddhist temples, as well as its proximity to nature. I’ve never seen so many Japanese maids in one place. In contrast, however, Kioto was much more modern in places than he expected; Kyoto Station may well be one of my favorite train stations in the world.
A warning, I have not managed to approach my photos of Japan, so I think about this as a collection of photos not completely complete of our time in Kyoto. In addition, it was far from the family, so the images are really snapshot of our daily explorations instead of having time to focus specifically on photography. I will add more photos when I have the opportunity!
In the streets: Osaka
In the streets: Tokyo
As I said in my Osaka publication, my two upper lenses used to capture Kyoto were the 18-55 mm f/2.8-4 and the Fujifilm 35 mm f/1.4.
You can find a detailed publication about everything I took to Japan right here!
All color shots are JPEG, practically directly from Fujifilm X-T5, with my classical negative recipe. I used raw + jpeg, which meant that I could turn each image into my acros recipe and see Japan into glorious black and white.
