From the end of December 2017 to mid -June 2018, I lived in a small metal box on wheels that had the best moment of my life. A small motorhome gave Emma and my full freedom; We could do what we wanted, when we wanted. If we would like to have breakfast with views to the coast, track aboriginal hands, explore prehistoric tropical jungles or simply sleep, we could do it. Welcome to Vanlife in Australia!
I have said this before, but there is not absolutely a better way to experience everything Australia has to offer than in a motorhome. From unimaginable heat during the night, endless horizons and Cananes that come to smell, all these experiences are put under their skin and show Australia in a way that cannot be flushed here, there and everywhere. Before we undertake our Vanlife adventure in Australia, I read many articles on what to expect. What I found that it helped the most were statistics; Details with which I could really work. For Geek in me, I could try to solve exactly how much it would cost for our own road trip. I wanted to track as much as possible while traveling, so I had some spreadsheets that cover fuel, distance, food and accommodation. I found the most difficult food to keep updated, but we finally decided on a weekly cash.
If you are planning your own adventure or is simply curious about what Vanlife implies in Australia, keep reading. At least for me, these statistics are really interesting!

Looking at these statistics at the end of our trip, what surprised me was how much we spent in accommodation. Obviously, that is above what we spend in the truck first. He had thought we could release the camp anywhere and everywhere. However, if I am sincere, it really was not. For a quiet dream in a pleasant place, we are often paying for a camp instead next to a service station, for example. Also on the east coast, there are much fewer free camps than imagine and, even then, a serious planning is needed every day.
For a feeling of exactly what our road trip implied, then there is an approximate route of Google Maps. We fix them to fly to Perth after our collapse, but Emma and I feel that our road trip is incomplete. At some point in the coming years, once everything returns to order, we will end the lap of Australia.
Hopefully these statistics will help you in some way when you consider Vanlife in Australia. It is not for everyone and there are more than what will see on social networks, but it is a truly experience that changes the life that will make you appreciate the little things of life.
