One day on Fraser Island

[ad_1]

Like the Whitsunday Islands or the Great Arrecife barrier, Fraser Island has an outstanding place in the desire list of each traveler. The Fraser Island is located right on the east coast of Australia approximately three hours north of Brisbane. It is the world’s largest sand island and the only place in the world where the tropical jungle grows in the sand.

The beautiful crystalline waters of Lake McKenzie only make this place want to get lost. Recently I spent a day exploring Fraser Island with Unique Fraser. Unique Fraser is a tourism company that offers a 4 × 4 Land Cruiser Tours with small groups of six. If you do not want to see the island on a 4 × 4 bus with another thirty eight tourists or your budget does not extend to a two or three days tour, this is the tour for you. They are also the only one -day tour to visit all the main places, including the pools of the Indian head and the champagne. These are my most prominent aspects of the trip to the Isla Fraser.

McKenzie lake

This is what you have come to Fraser Island. Lake McKenzie is one of the many freshwater lakes on the island, but this is, with much, the most popular. With a single Fraser, we were the first outside the barge and we arrived here before tourist buses.

I had seen in photos how clear the water was, but, being a bit pessimistic, I thought it would be murky for some reason. I was not disappointed, the water was the clearest I had seen. You can see until now when you open your eyes under water. Not only the water is perfectly clear, the sand is whiter than white!

Driving on the beach/aerodrome road

Surely it can’t be much more exciting than this. Running the beach, yes, the beach, in a V8 Land Cruiser with Surf Surf just by your side. Even better when you have your head out of the window. Did I mention that the beach is not only a road but also an airfield? From time to time you will see planes preparing to take off on scenic flights.

Indian head

The Australians call this Headland a mountain even though it rises only 60 meters in total. The climb to the top was not bad at all, but the reward is 360 degrees on the island. We were lucky to see two fishermen eagles, but, unfortunately, none of the famous marine life. The sea was too hard to see sharks or butter rays.

Visit face to face with a dnyo

A few weeks ago, I put on a race with a Dyngo, since one crawled silently through our remote camp after dusk. I had also seen them in zoos, but it was nothing like seeing one on Fraser Island. The dingos here are probably the purest in the world. In the continent, most dingos have raised with domestic dogs. As we were running along the beach, we suddenly stop abruptly to the call of ‘Dingoooo’. It seemed very thin, although this is natural. The Dingo will patrol its complete territory every day and that can be up to 60 km. He had a label in his ear and it seemed that he wanted something. The label means that it has had enough inspirations with humans; More and will have to be discarded.

While this sounds cruel, humans are (against law) feeding the dingos so much that they become dependent. If the next human appears and does not feed them, the Dingo can be very aggressive. While we looked more closely at the Dingo, the Dingo arrived directly at the door of my car. The window was completely low and I was tilting with my camera. It was less than two feet away. Suddenly, he didn’t feel good. He felt as if the Dingo was going to jump. Chris, our tour guide, felt exactly the same. My window could not climb quickly enough. It is likely that this Dyngo has been fed car before. Tourists think that poor dingos are so thin that they must need to feed. Please, don’t do this!

Eli Creek

This is another of the obligatory needs of Fraser Island on each tour. A fresh water stream flows to the sea that pumps 80,000 liters of crazy water per hour. The attraction here is that you can float effortlessly for the stream as a slow river. The idea sounds great. The reality is that the stream is deep enough to float on its back in some places. Most is just a pimp. If you have a noodle or a rubber ring, it would be much more entertaining. However, we repeat the trip through the stream several times; The water was so refreshing!

Champagne pool

As with Indian Head, a single Fraser is the only one -day tour to visit here. This is the only place where you can immerse in salt water without worrying about hangover currents or being eaten by sharks. The idea is that the rockpools foam and bubbiates with incoming waves. Like the correct champagne.

It was not as I imagined when I visited and our guide Chris warned that there may be blue jellyfish. Even so, it is worth the additional trip through the beach.

Maheno shipwreck

While we jumped along the beach road, the ghostly shipwreck of the maheno appears from the fog. Once as extravagant as Titanic, Maheno became a floating hospital during World War. Finally, the Japanese was sold by scrap and, while he was towed from Sydney, a cyclone pushed the maheno to the Isla Fraser. Since then, he has been on the island despite being used for the practice of bombing in World War II.

You really don’t need much here, apart from taking some photos. You can’t get into the maheno and even if you tried, you would probably end tetanus.

One or three days on Fraser Island?

In my opinion, Fraser Island can be done comfortably in one day. How long do you really need to see Maheno’s wreck or float for Eli Creek? I prefer to save the budget to navigate Whitsundys, since the several days tours here can be expensive. I cannot recommend Unique Fraser enough. On our tour, there was another similar age, so only four people more our Chris guide. This meant that the tour felt so personal; as if we were being a driver for the day. I think beer and champagne at lunch also helped. The total cost was $ 235 per person, but it is really worth it. The trips of the other day (such as Fraser Experience or Fraser Explorer) cost $ 190. While they are a bit cheaper, they are the ones that have the buses and forty tourists! If you like it, then it is fine but, if you want the best tour of a possible day, unique Fraser is the way to follow. However, decide to visit Fraser Island, it is guaranteed to make memories that last a lifetime.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send me a message and help where I can.
