From chaotic street food offerings in Mercato Di Ballaro to the appetizer prior to dinner with friends, from mocking scary while wandering to elegant dinners to the light of the candles. This is my opinion about the best places to eat in Palermo, Sicily.
In the heart of the Mediterranean, the capital of Sicily is considered one of the most conquered cities in the world. The importance of the island throughout history has seen many different cultures, but fortunately each has left its mark on the Sicilian cuisine. It is diverse, it is unique and absolutely divine.
There is no doubt that life in Palermo revolves around food. From dawn to midnight, food is fundamental for everything the city is treated. From chaotic street food offerings in Mercato Di Ballaro to dinner prior to dinner to elegant dinners in candlelight, Palermo is a gastronomic paradise.
While it would be impossible to have tried all the fantastic places of Palermo to eat, this is purely my guide for my favorites I experienced on those five nights. Others will undoubtedly have their hidden gems and local hot spots, so, of course, they add them to their list too.
If you feel like a deeper look at Sicilian food and a guide on what to eat in Sicily, I have you covered here!
Now that you are here, let me take a virtual culinary tour of the best places to eat in Palermo and help plan your next trip to Sicily.
Discharge of Responsibility: I visited Palermo on a press trip courtesy of the Board of Tourists Visit Sicily and spent three nights in the city. I spent a single addition of two nights exploring as many city as possible. All the opinions expressed in this article are, as always, completely mine!
The best places to eat in Palermo
Mercato Di Ballaro
The Mercato Di Ballaro de Palermo, larger and older, is an assault on all the senses of all the right ways. This market comes to life at the first doors, which makes its way through several blockages of the city. Remembering many of the Arab roots. Sellers are loud, full of locists and tourists equally and there is a lot of Sicilian street food to delight. All Palermo visitors must eat as the locals do here in Mercato Di Ballaro.
As expected, there are many tourist traps to avoid; Those who will see with precooked seafood sat under fans fed by battery without a sight price list. I visited a Sunday morning to find dozens of cola locals in certain positions; Those who serve Pani ca sampa (the infamous Sicilia Sandwich), Arancine (often hotter than the sun) and Sfincione (a type of sicilian pizza). You will find that these non -descriptive positions in Mercato Di Ballaro are undoubtedly some of the best places to eat in Palermo.

Mercato del Capo
As part of our group bicycle tour of Palermo, we stopped at the Mercato del Capo for lunch in conditions reminiscent of the Monzón season in Southeast Asia. It had already gone briefly, so it was great to sit in one of the restaurants specialized in Sicilian street food.
The market itself is much smaller than Mercato Di Ballaro with just a tight street full of stalls. You will find many fruits and vegetables, as well as herbs and spices, although there is apparently more focus on fresh seafood here, so, if you can, go early with empty bellies.
We ate in a small but popular restaurant and tested a variety of basic street food products, including, unfortunately for me, pani ca samples. I explained before that there are often queues of people in the positions that this dish waiting patiently, but could not get yours. While the bread is lovely and soft, covered with sesame seeds, inside you will find veal spleen (and maybe even the lung) that has boiled and then fry in pig butter. That is the only dish that I will not try again. The upper part of my list was the caponata (stew -based eggplant) and Arancine.

Q-TUPPO
Q-TUPPO was recommended by the owner of the B&B in which I stayed for my first night in Palermo for both Granita and the brioche that is done after a historical recipe. You will find Q-TUPPO just through Porto Nuova; A historical entrance door to the city. For those who are not aware, Granita is another Sicilian specialty, similar to Sorbet, it is a semi-gospel dessert. I went with the pistachio flavor, the cream at the top and enjoyed collecting it with the lighter and more spongy brioche that I have tried in my life.

Capadonia Gelati
Gelato is synonymous with Italy, so it would be difficult to come to Sicily and not end up devouring this delicious sweet sweet, even without realizing it.
Cappadonia Gelati is very renowned for collecting the best ice cream throughout Palermo and, honestly, it is not difficult to see why. I went with the taste of salty candy; Two mountains of which were served inside a brioche bun. Darling. I didn’t know that this was a stuff Until I get to Palermo, but I am not sure to be able to eat ice cream or ice cream of a miserable cone and much less a depressing cardboard cup. Brioche with Gelato is the way to follow.

Capocolo
Possibly the best appetizer you will find in Palermo is here in Capocolo. This was the perfect place to be presented to Sicilian nightlife with a Spritz Aperol and a shared board so large that I needed four staff members to take it. The board was filled to the edge with a wide selection of cheese, cured meats, olives, sliding controls, scary, cous and dry tomatoes. I recommend visiting this restaurant to anyone since both food and atmosphere were exceptionally good!

Cannoli
Cannoli is another of the iconic culinary delights of Sicily. These crispy pastry shells are full of soft sweetened ricotta cream and, if you wish, sprinkled with pistachios. The cannoli (singular is cannolo) is good to eat almost any time of the day, so go to the homonymous ‘cannoli’ store where newly fried shells are filled on request. These are absolutely delicious and absolutely huge. Not bad for € 3.50!

Giardini del Massimo
The Massimo Theater, the third largest opera in Europe, is undoubtedly one of Palermo’s most beautiful buildings. The Giardini restaurant of the Massimo occupies the ground floor and combines all the opulence and greatness of the opera with the cooking sicilian cuisine experts.
They treated us with several dishes that show the best of the food offered in Giardini of the Massimo; Including Sushi, Caponata and Veggie Parmigiana!

Pizzeria Biondo
It would have been quite negligent on me not to include a pizzeria as one of the best places to eat in Palermo. This is Sicily and Italy after all! Our last night in Palermo, and in Sicily, spent it in Pizzeria Biondo; A little out of the way and full of locals, which is always a good sign.
With such a range of ingredients and pizza styles, it was difficult to make a decision, but finally I settled on the diavole with Fior Di Latte, Piccante Salame, Salisccia and Penucino, yes, it was spicy but so good. The pizzas fell very well with those of Sicily and even those of Napoli.

Scratching
My favorite place to take a scratch in Palermo was scratching in Via Vittorio Emanuele. A quick note about spelling before continuing; Arancina is unique and Arancine is plural. I learned that the Palermitani are very particular about this, so please do not make an error: the scient is feminine.
Now that we have taken it out of the road, in scratching, you can ask for fresh fried rice balls, covered with bread crumbs, with your filling choice. The traditional filling is Ragu, but you can also get out of the track with flavors such as Curry chicken, spicy salami and Emmementhal or even chocolate.
Most likely, her scary is hotter than the sun, so be free to explore more from Palermo while taking the bites cautiously when it is humanly possible.

Bersagliere
This place was recommended again by one of the charming owners of B&B. Treator Bersagliere is not far from Mercato Di Ballaro and it is said that it is where all the headlines are going to have lunch. The restaurant is completely unpretentious; Think of plastic seats, affordable prices and a good honest sicilian meal. It can be busy and, as with many restaurants these days, quality can be unpredictable, but if you are looking for a true vision of everyday life in Palermo, this is where you will find it.
I have achini
I Cuochini is a small bakery where you will find typical Sicilian snacks, such as small meat and panel sandwiches (fried chickpea flour). Everything here is homemade and describes as an institution and, therefore, is essential when visiting Palermo.
