Bishop Auckland is a rising city and his food scene is becoming increasingly popular. This is my guide to the best places to eat at Bishop Auckland to help plan your next visit.
If you are looking for the best places to eat in Bishop Auckland, you have come to the right place. I am here to help you discover exactly where you should eat when Bishop Auckland visits; Whether it is here for the Auckland or Kynren project. I live in Durham County, so I have visited this city city on numerous occasions in recent years and I am pleased to say that, with all the regeneration work, Bishop Auckland is undoubtedly a place in the northeast that is being transformed before our own eyes.
Bishop Auckland has a wide variety of places to eat, but you really need to know where to find the best restaurants and that is where I enter. Whether I am looking for low and slow smoked meats, Spanish tapas or Italian firewood pizza, I will take it through the best places to eat in Bishop Auckland.
Let’s do this.
The best places to eat at Bishop Auckland, Durham County
Bishop Auckland Food Festival
Every year, in mid -April, the Bishop Auckland market is transformed into a two -day food festival with more than 150 posts and presents live cooking demonstrations of famous chefs. The very respected festival attracted 28,000 visitors in 2023 and will undoubtedly be so popular when he returned on April 20 and 21 in 2024.
Street food merchants, coffee makers and brewers all over the Northeast make an appearance at the Bishop Auckland Food Festival, including Caps OFF, Fat Hippo, Hatch76 and Parm-O-Rama. You will also find many retail stalls so you can take cakes home, fresh bread, cheeses and almost anything that occurs in the food and beverage industry!
Knead
At the top of North Bondgate/Finkle Street, there is a slice; Cooked Neapolitan -style -made pizzas in a matter of minutes with fire. A wide variety of ingredients are offered: My favorite is the spicy with the Tomato de San Marzano, Mozzarella, Nduja, tender stem broccoli base, pecorino, chiles and honey of Chile, all for only £ 10. French fries with garlic butter are also unreal! This is not just the best pizza in Bishop Auckland, you will not find much better throughout Durham County. I strongly recommend booking a table since, rightly, it is a popular place to eat at Bishop Auckland!

The castle
The castle is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in Bishop Auckland and would not be out of place in downtown Durham, if not Spain, in itself. This Tapas restaurant is part of the continuous development of the Auckland Bishop of the Auckland project and offers small high quality dishes made with fresh ingredients of the 17th century walled garden in Auckland Castle just a few hundred meters away. This is a perfect place for an appointment or a romantic night with friends and, although the price is higher than expected here in Bishop Auckland, it will not disappoint you!

Chang Thai
I am always looking for a good Thai restaurant since our trips through Thailand in 2018 and Chang Thai is a good offer in Bishop Auckland. With authentic flavors, decent prices, although with recent reviews, suggesting that the service can be a bit slow, it is still a great option for Thai food.
Figueas in the vintage tea room
If you are looking for a lovely cafeteria in Bishop Auckland, you don’t look for the Fifteas Tea Room that, as it probably guessed, is strongly inspired by the 1950s. This was after World War II is recreated with love here in the form of ‘ration book’ and decoration and food offerings are also bright. Wait for fruit buns to the size of a rock, tea in elegant cups from China and, of course, canned meat cake. Bonus: There is also a coffee dog section if you visit with your four -legged friend.
The smoke house
The smokehouse is a unique independent business located in an old railway block that specializes in low and slow smoked meats, American style. The breast of beef and the shredded pig a sclit for 14 hours during the night, while the ribs, the chicken and the sausage are fierce daily for 3-4 hours. All sausages, hamburgers and sauces are made at home and it can be said that it is proud in what smokehouse serves.
I love American food, so it was absolutely impressed by the quality of the smoked meat dish. There are only a few tables inside that adds to the friendly atmosphere, so be sure to reserve in advance or that you can also order online if it is local. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Bishop Auckland.

Park Head Hotel & Restaurant
Another courtesy reurbing of the Auckland project, Park Head Hotel & Restaurant is on the outskirts of the city and probably offers one of the best Sunday lunches in Bishop Auckland. As with the castle, many of the ingredients come from the 17th -century walled garden in Auckland Castle. Sunday lunch presents an option of entrants for £ 6, main dishes (beef, pork or chicken) for £ 15 or the three meats for £ 18 and desserts for £ 6 (it is always a sticky pudding for me). The normal dishes are served throughout the week, including Saturdays (think of hamburgers, cakes, fish and fried potatoes, etc.) more between 5 and 6 pm from Monday to Friday, you can choose between a range of main courses for only £ 10!
