Kiama is a relaxing coastal city to southern Sydney that will surprise you pleasantly. You will find heritage buildings, impressive beaches and the largest shore in the world. Let me show you why you need to visit my guide about the best things to do in Kiama.
With broad natural wonders along an impressive coast, it is not surprising that Kiama is such a popular destination for those looking for a weekend trip away from Sydney or those on an epic trip along the road through Australia. You will find the world’s largest oritue buildings dating from the late 1800s, golden sand beaches and easy access to beautiful tropical jungles.
Kiama is only 120 km south of Sydney and it was our first real experience of life on the road on the motorhome; Long and relaxing days next to the sea combined with a lot of exploration. We loved our time here and that time has helped me to gather this list of the best activities, attractions and things to do in Kiama.
The best things to do in Kiama
Collins Street
Throughout Collins Street in Kiama are the historical houses of terrace that were originally built in 1886 for the quarry workers. These historical buildings now house a variety of different stores, including those that sell sweets (or lollys, I suppose in Australia), household items, gourmet foods and collectibles. This is one of the first places in Kiama to which you are probable, you may even pass, and a little retail therapy will prepare you well for the rest of the day.
Coast walk
To experience the best of this incredible coast, why not put their coaches and wander for all, or part, by Kiama Coast Walk? Stretching for 20 km from the Minnamurra river through Kiama to Gerringong, you will see the best of the best in terms of coastal views, geological wonders and golden beaches sweeping. The coastal walk presents a combination of sealed paths, grass tracks and beach walks. If you are not prepared for the complete walk of 20 km, or it does not have time, the walk is divided into three manageable sections; From the Minnamurra River to the hole of Kima, Kiama Blowol to Laves Bay and loves Bay and Gerrigong.

Kiama Lighthouse
The brilliant white beacon of Kiama is an iconic milestone with impressive views along the coast and towards the sea. If you visit the correct season, between May and November, keep your eyes wide open to migrate whales.
The 1887 lighthouse offers a unique subject to his photographs and the area around him, with grass and pines, are popular for picnics. While the lighthouse is beautiful, you are more likely to go to the best and more to the but to do in Kiama, the hole.
Kiama Behole
Kiama’s jewel is undoubtedly its torch and this is what attracts many visitors every year. The name ‘Kiama’ even translates as “where the sea makes a noise.” Apparently, at least, according to the New Wales of the South, Kiama’s hole is the largest in the world and, when the waves come from southeast, the water explodes through the rock reaching a height of up to 30 meters. Isn’t nature incredible?
This is a must when you arrived in Kiama, he thought you could even have come to Kiama only to see the infamous hole. We visited in a relatively windy day, so we were treated with a great show! Of course, you cannot plan when it is better to see the well, so the cross fingers are put in a show for you too. If the wind comes from the northeast, the opposite of the ideal conditions for the hole, address the small bird’s hole around 3.5 km further south along the coast.

Headland Bombo Cantera
One of the most popular photography places in Kiama, and perhaps throughout the southern coast of the new southern coast of South Wales, is the quarry of chocolate heads. The original quarry opened in 1881 and worked until 1940 with workers regularly that eliminated huge rock pieces, which resulted in the most unique amphitheater of rock columns similar to the giant road in Ireland. Many photographers now go here for beautiful marine landscapes, but, of course, be careful with the tides, waves and climate in general.
With the one left inside and around Kiama so long, I am really destroyed, we never reached Bombo Headland Quarry or Cathedral Rocks despite having thoroughly investigated the best places for photography in advance. Honestly, I think my brain was working in Overdrive, since we were only a few days to live in our motorhome and we were still trying to adapt! I guess the reason more to return!
Cathedral rocks
Another great place for photography is the rocks of the cathedral; An iconic location that is practically perfect at dawn! The track here is fine and truly in the name. At the right angle, the infamous rock apparently seems to get up directly from the sea in the form of a classic English cathedral. There is also a small hidden cave that seems to be made only to offer a natural frame to the rocks of the cathedral. Again, be careful with the tides, waves and weather!
Jamberoo
Throughout the official tourist campaign, number 9, from Kiama to the highlands of the South, is the picturesque town of Jamberoo; A place I fell in love immediately. We visited Jamberooo mainly for his free camp near the Kevin Walsh Oval, but very soon we realized that this town was a hidden jewel. Throughout our trip through Australia, we sometimes offered comparisons of new cities and new free camps simply by affirming “it is simply not jamberooo, although it is so.” The main street has many nineteenth -century buildings still in excellent condition, such as the Jambero Pub that opened in 1857.
If you have time, I recommend making a day excursion (even half a day is enough) to visit this lovely town. Jamberoo Action Park It is also a big cry for those with children (or even if you do not) if you love a water park.

Illawarra Fly Adventures
It leads 30 minutes inland, and uphill, from Kiama and you will find Adventures Illawarra Fly -Teetop, which is a fantastic activity for the whole family; If you are a fan of the heights. There is an impressive 1.5 km walk through the tropical jungle, of which 500m is located on a steel catwalk through the tree canopy. The catwalk is at a height of around 20-30 meters with the tower of the gentlemen that reaches a high 45 meters. There are also two 25 -meter high balancing platforms that honestly shook me. If you need more emotions, there is a tour of Tirolina that carries it out and personal with the tropical jungle.
The entrance for our visit was included after buying an annual Merlin pass at the Sealife Center in Melbourne (it includes the entrance to 12 attractions, including the Sydney Tower Eye & Madame Tussauds in Sydney), but adult tickets cost $ 27.50 for the copy walk and $ 75 for the Zipline Tour.

That concludes my guide on the best things to do in Kiama on the southern coast of Nueva Wales del Sur. If you are looking for a super relaxed coastal city less than two hours from Sydney, don’t look for more than Kiama!
