With the whitest sand in the world in some of the best beaches in Australia, cold cities and indomitable thickets, Jervis Bay is one of the most beautiful places in Nueva Wales in the South. This is my guide to the most wonderful things to do in Jervis Bay to help plan your visit.
Before starting, my wife and the failed attempt in the lap of Australia, we spent a few months of road stumbling around Nueva Gales del Sur; From the Virgen Costa to the south of Sydney to the agricultural country to remote national parks. One of our favorite places only a few days arrived on our journey south from Sydney in the absolutely impressive Jervis Bay.
You will find Jervis Bay about 180 km south of Sydney passing the Royal National Park and Kiama on the coast of Shoalhaven. The bay is well known by the most incredible white sand beaches in Australia, but there are also quiet national parks, small beach cities and a lot of wildlife to detect both on land and in the sea.
What surprised me more to Jervis Bay was his size. For some reason, perhaps being accustomed to small bays in the Greek islands, I expected Jervis Bay to be small, much smaller than I thought. Clearly I could not judge the size of Google Maps, after having imagined long walks on the beach around the entire bay. How bad I was! The bay is actually 102 km²! If I wanted to drive from the perpendicular lighthouse of Point at the north entrance of the bay to Murrays Beach in the south, he would take about an hour (65 km).
Now that you are here, I hope you plan a trip to Jervis Bay soon, whether you go to a weekend break of the city or passes on your Australian journey by road. To help you, I have gathered my thoughts about the best things that can be done in Jervis Bay!
Things to do in Jervis Bay
Hyams Beach
Forget the Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundys, the beach with the whitest sand in the world is here in Jervis Bay; Hyams Beach. Without a doubt, one of the best things to do in Jervis Bay is simply to enjoy this beautiful 2.8 km beach that has to be one of the best beaches in all of Australia.
The sand is whiter than the white one and, while walking on it, it will barrier under your feet! Apparently, that is because the pure white quartz sand is well rounded and formed in spheres according to Scientific American magazine. Once you have surpassed how unique the sand is, take a moment to soak up in the views of the crystalline waters.
If you are visiting summer, wait for this beach to be very busy during the day (it is better to visit at dawn or at sunset) and keep in mind that there will be limited parking. Somehow, we managed to squeeze the motorhome in the smallest places on the side of the road only for a parking director to immediately tell him that we face the wrong way.
After dusk, if you are lucky, Hyams Beach is one of the best places in the world to detect the bioluminescence plankton phenomenon when the soft lapes waves shines a bright neon blue. Unfortunately, I was not so lucky, but it was worth trying!

White Arenas Walk
Together with Hyams Beach, there are many other incredible white sand beaches in Jervis Bay and, completing the beautiful ‘coastal white sandy walk, will allow you to experience some of my favorites.
The short trail of 2.5 km begins in Greenfield Beach before throwing along the coast through the green forest and on the other side of the Chinamans beach to Hyams Beach. We discovered that Chinamans Beach was much quieter than the attraction of start and we would easily recommend spending a few hours there; The sand is practically identical and so impressive do not worry!

Booderee National Park
On the southern edge of Jervis Bay, is the exuberant and remote Booderee National Park with more incredible beaches, botanical gardens, Cape St George lighthouse and Bush camp places in Green Patch Campsite. Interestingly, the Booderee National Park is actually part of the territory of Jervis Bay and not from New South Wales; Formed to provide access to the territory of the capital (Act) of Australia to the sea!
Our favorite place in the Booderee National Park was Caves Beach, where we spent a cold morning in January celebrating Emma’s birthday. The main attraction in Caves Beach is, you guessed, a beautiful cave that perfectly frames the beach. We also loved the governor’s head guard over Bowen island at the southern entrance of the Bay beach and the green patch with crystalline waters and hundreds of parrots, Rosellas and Lorikeets of rainbow!
The entrance to the National Park costs $ 13 per vehicle for 2 days of access and, if you are looking for a camp, make sure that Reserve in advance With rates around $ 25 per night.

Huskisson
Huskisson is the main city of Jervis Bay, so you can make sure that if you go to Jervis Bay on a more time or longer excursion, you will enter Huskisson at some point; For supplies, for a vagabond or most likely a few drinks and a meal. While recent criticisms are mixed, we had a lovely meal at the Huskisson hotel (you can’t be wrong with a chicken Parmigian) that offers excellent views in the bay and a terrace for when the heavens decide to open (as it did for us!).
Other main things to do in Huskisson are watching a movie in the lovely Huskisson photos and have a cold beer in Jervis Bay Brewing Co.

Maritime Museum of Jervis Bay
While in Huskisson, you must visit the Maritime Museum of Jervis Bay if you like to learn a little about historical vessels and see local maritime artifacts. One of the last surviving wood ferries that operated in the port of Sydney, the Denman, can be seen in the museum, which was curiously built in Huskisson when the area was known for its naval construction instead of as a tourist destination.
Adults – $ 12.50
Children (under 16) – Free when they accompany an adult
Luna de Luna de Luna
We visited the Moona Moona Park by a recommendation of a place in Huskisson. On the outskirts of the city there is this beautiful park with a little perfect entrance for children to splashed and, if they like an adrenaline blow, many jumped from the bridge to the stream then (even if they do it at their own risk!). The stream is tide, so be careful and make sure to supervise the little ones! After spending some nights in a free camp in the A1, we headed here to obtain an excellent parking space (free) with views of the entrance, the beach and the Bay of Jervis beyond. I still have such good memories of peaceful cups of tea and endless Yahtzee games in the motorhome here.

Wild kangaroos
One of Australia’s most famous marsupials, you will have a good opportunity to see wild kangaroos throughout Jervis Bay. When we visit, we stayed in the caravan park of Tail House Tail in Wrights Beach, where the kangaroos wandered around the site as if they belonged to them. It was an interesting cup of morning tea!
Caves Beach in the Booderee National Park is also a great place to detect kangaroos!

Whales, seals and dolphins
The clean waters of Jervis Bay are a marine park protected with more than 210 species of reef fish, as well as sharks, rays, birds and reptiles. Jervis Bay is one of the best places on the coast of New South Wales to see dolphins and seals, as well as humpback whales during their annual migration between May and November. While most whales go through the entrance to the bay, some will actually come in! Unfortunately, we don’t visit at the right time (we were there in January), so we didn’t see whales!
That wraps my guide on the most wonderful things to do in Jervis Bay; It is definitely a must when it is in Nueva Wales del Sur. If you have any comments or want more information, let it know in the comments below!
