Fujifilm 33 mm F/1.4 Lenso review: a weekend adventure

[ad_1]

Ok, good. I have yielded and tested the fujifilm lens 33 mm f/1.4; A lens that seeks to replace and modernize my beloved Fujifilm 35 mm f/1.4. Do you want to know my thoughts? Let’s do this.

I will admit that since the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4 lens was announced, I have remained far from entertaining the idea that I could I need this lens. Why would I? I fell in love with Fujifilm 35 mm F/1.4 immediately in 2020 and has been my reference lens since then on family days, press trips abroad, basically anywhere and everywhere. I suppose that somehow, allowing me to think about the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4 I could have led me to have to accept that the failures of the oldest lens contained me.

I am not sure that I would ever accept that the defects of the Fujifilm 35 mm f/1.4 were stopping me, not the opportunity to be fair, but I will openly say that the lens frustrates me sometimes; Of course. Sometimes it is slow to concentrate, it is not sealed by the weather, it is loud, but I am one of those Fujifilm photographers that swears for the character of the images it produces.

Therefore, could I be thinking why I would change your mind suddenly and try the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4? Well, first of all, I have always allowed a little intrigue in the lens, especially after spending more time watching videos of street photography and trips with the lens. However, the main reason is that I had to film a wedding in a place I had filmed before, but I wanted to use the 50 mm classic focal distance that I have become accustomed to almost my entire photograph. My normal combination of the Fujifilm 18 mm f/1.4/Fujifilm 23 mm f/1.4 and the Fujifilm 56 mm f/1.2 felt too wide or too tight for this particular place. I could not even understand the use of the Fujifilm 35 mm F/1.4 for a wedding (which would actually be disastrous), so, low and here, I went ahead and ordered the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4.

Therefore, it is time to share my thoughts below in this concise review of 33 mm lenses f/1.4.

33 mm lens review F/1.4

Whether I have read some of my lens reviews before or if it is your first time here, I wanted to start saying that I am not the type of person who will deepen all the specifications or graphics or that you will shoot brick walls. This is only me sharing my thoughts about the lens as if we were sitting next to each other drinking a beer or coffee!

Before starting, I will also point out that I only used this lens for a maximum of a week (the reasons why I will appear), so keep in mind that I cannot talk about how it refers to long -term use or adjusts to my travel photography configuration.

The 33 mm focal distance

After more than 11 years of photography and shot by Fujifilm since 2016, I discovered that the 35 mm focal distance in a crop sensor is undoubtedly my favorite focal length. This is equivalent to the 50 mm field of vision in a complete frame that allows the isolation of the subject and attracts it to a scene unlike any other focal distance. I hate the phrase ‘Nifty-Fifty’, but it is easy to see why this focal distance is recommended to all beginners. Sometimes, of course, it can be too tight, especially inside, but it works very well for travel photography and document my family’s life.

The 33 mm is a slight change of the previous iterations of the 35 mm line of Fujifilm. 35 mm is really equivalent to 53 mm, while 33 mm equals 50 mm exactly, although, in practice, I saw no difference in focal distance.

Design and weight

This lens shares the new design style such as Fujifilm 18 mm F/1.4 and the new Fujifilm 23 mm f/1.4; thin and long instead of thick and short. If you can describe such a lens! Compared to 35 mm f/1.4 (and I suppose that even more with 35 mm f/2), it feels massive and weighs much more, but in reality it is nothing out of the ordinary compared to the lenses of other brands and other modern Fujifilm lenses. I shot 80% of the wedding day with this lens in the Fujifilm X-T5 and did not feel too heavy at all.

Automatic approach

This is where the lens really enters itself. It is incredible, instant and practically silent. Nothing like 35 mm f/1.4 and that in itself is so positive. Actually, it was refreshing to use this lens and get into the subjects instantly even with little light. I know that I have other lenses with fast automatic approach, but since this is my favorite focal distance, you would think that I would not have supported the slow 35 mm focus f/1.4 for so long.

My photograph covers a lot at this time, but mainly it is about traveling and simply documenting my life and my little daughter. While 35 mm F/1.4 has stayed up to date with my needs during the last four years, my daughter now has two years and constantly Running around which is not something that can really capture in that lens. For wedding photography, the automatic approach even with little light is fantastic. I was very surprised when the combination of this lens with the Fujifilm X-T5 simply locked himself in the bride and remained focused to the hall in a darker than dark place. Of course, there were some shots out of focus, but most focused on the majority (if not a bit noisy thanks to the high -light high -speed requirement with little light). I did not shoot weddings regularly, but it was good to have something so reliable!

I have also been immersing my fingers to take a video, especially during my trip to Madeira, which required me to produce reels on Instagram. That trip really aroused my interest in investigating this in more detail (it has been a while since filming videos during my trips from Australia just to do nothing of what does not take into account!). If you are looking for a lens that focuses perfectly on both the fixed images and for the video in this focal distance, then the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4 is the lens for you.

Image quality

This is where, in the past, I have tried to discuss myself than the image quality and ‘character’ of 35 mm f/1.4 cancels any suggestion of changing to a different lens; Thinking that it is not possible to replicate their magical qualities in a modern package. Well, the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4 exactly does that.

It is clear, one of the most clear that are offered from Fujifilm, and the image quality is madness. I found 35 mm f/2 a little clinical and expected the same here, but I am more than impressed. That comes from someone who loves the images of 35 mm f/1.4. Each shot that seemed to take reminded me of the oldest, but infinitely clear lens, even when it shoots from par. The colors are beautiful and I cannot imagine that no one is disappointed with the images produced by the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4.

The Fujifilm 33 mm F/1.4 is also able to completely solve the 40MP of the newest sensor that is currently in the X-T5; This is great if you want to cut later.

General thoughts

As I explained at the beginning of this publication, and I alluded in the title, I returned this lens even though I was blowing myself as much as possible. The reason I returned it simply reduced to the budget and did not want to degrade only the degradation of Fujifilm 35 mm f/1.4 to a shelf to never be used again. Honestly, if I kept this lens, that is exactly what would happen. It is incredibly fast for automatic approach, in silence, it has climate resistance and is much more acute than the oldest lens. Color interpretation and image quality are as good as the oldest lens, some would argue better. Therefore, there is nothing, it is fine, perhaps the size in a thrust and the price, that takes away the Fujifilm 33 mm f/1.4; It is practically perfect for each photography style. As I said before, I shot weddings shortly, but, if I were doing this full time, I would not have kept it without a doubt.

Of course, if you have a budget, you do not need quick opening and, like a small lens, the Fujifilm 35 mm f/2 remains a great option.

I can easily see this lens to my camera bag, I can only imagine how good it would be for my trips, but for now at least the 35 mm f/1.4 lives of Fujifilm to fight another day!
