Life moves pretty fast III

[ad_1]

Almost nine years later, I look back at the quote that started it all after achieving the first step of my dream of being a full-time travel blogger and photographer.

Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around from time to time, you could miss it.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

It’s hard to believe I’m writing a third post in what has become a small series dealing with important life updates. The quote above has appeared on my home page for almost nine years and has essentially become my life’s motto: create something better for myself and now my family.

the 30thth In August 2017, I published my first post here detailing how Ferris Bueller’s most famous quote helped me make, at least at the time, the most life-changing decision I had ever made. I had four weeks left to work as a medical negligence lawyer and four weeks before Emma and I left to explore the other side of the world.

It was clear to me at that moment that I wanted to travel the world, take photos, write about it and make a living from it. I thought it would take months and that we could travel indefinitely but the reality is that it took much, much longer than that.

We returned to England in 2018, I started working as a child protection lawyer and, for the next eight years, life just happened. We got married, bought our house and started a family. Somehow, despite everything, the passion for photography and writing remained and I continued working on this blog although at a slow pace. However, as I write this in April 2026, I can officially say that I am doing this full day.

That’s right, I’m finally doing this full time.

I have been trying really hard for the last 3 years and I am very proud to say that it has paid off in the sense that I have been able to make that leap: from full-time lawyer with a salary to being self-employed.

I have no illusions that this is going to be easy. Which is not. I’m probably going to work harder than ever, but my productivity will directly impact my livelihood and I’m looking forward to that. I can finally focus fully on photography, writing, and continue building my little space in the travel and photography communities.

However, it’s not just about me, as clearly a decision like this affects my family. It’s not like we can just up, leave and become a digital nomad family (at least not yet). Hopefully this move will create a little freedom to ensure I don’t miss my kids growing up and having all the adventures with them.

So, almost nine years later, I achieved step 1 of my dream. It’s time to get to work and see what I can do with all my energy directed here.

Let’s do this.
