Melbourne A Sydney: The Road Trip

[ad_1]

Our introduction to Vanlife was a three -day road trip from Melbourne to Sydney for the New Year’s Eve. When you think of fireworks exhibitions in NYE, you think about Sydney Harbor Bridge. Speaking Nye with a view to the port of Sydney was a must on our list and we had paid the probabilities to ensure that we have a hotel near the center. We planned the free camp as often as possible in an attempt to save money and the planned route was from Melbourne to Lake Hume to Kangaroo Valley to Sydney. on the distance between cities and the obvious fact that it always needs water. I read horror stories about breakdown in desolate places. One would think we would be completely prepared …

Day one

We had already packed most of our belongings to the truck on two trips prior to the storage installation. We had too much clothes, since we originally planned to live in Sydney for three months, so we filled a suitcase to send home and release one. The cost to sending the suitcase was $ 380. It is not the best start for the day. Our truck has a double battery system with an investor that allows the refrigerator to work, as well as normal electricity without running the start battery. The previous owners had bought the start battery of the remains and had been a bit doubtful. We always had to use our two deep cycle batteries to boost the engine. I thought I would only need a good career to load everything. We started from Melbourne with a lot of gasoline at 1:30 pm The truck was a disaster with all our additional things, but we planned to have an adequate management in Lake Hume, four hours by car.I will not explain too much unless you want, but here is a brief summary of the first day:

  • A bottle of water each
  • A lost canvas
  • A breakdown to a mile of the road and the call of RACV
  • A trip through a storm (literally could not see anything but branches that flew beyond our truck)
  • A gas stop
  • I learned that our truck is garbage in the hills

Distance: 344 Kmtime: 6.5 hours of the worst days of travel that I have had, but stop on the banks of Lake Hume was a perfect ending for the day. We managed to relax quite fast despite being thirst.

Day two

After the stress of the previous day, we woke up feeling relaxed and ready for the biggest travel day. We didn’t realize how far we were going or what awaited us when we got there either. We left at 9 am to the local city before our trip began an hour later.

  • A new battery (the truck begins as a dream: our problems are solved)
  • McDonalds breakfast
  • Two stops for gasoline
  • An incredibly steep 10 km decrease in the kangaroo valley
  • An adequate meal
  • Australia is really mountainous

The free camp was absolutely perfect and that could be seen, since it was almost full. The park is managed by NSW Water and there are guardians who work 24 hours a day. We spent an hour unpacking our things and classifying the motorhome when a huge wombat came out of under our truck. There were enough Wombats walking eating the grass and kangaroos could be seen in the next field. We woke up in the middle of the night at the truck swinging from side to side. A Wombat had decided to scratch his back under our truck! It was the second day that I realized that we could really manage to live in the truck for nine months. Distance: 509 km Time: 7.75 hours

Day three

We were not far from Sydney now, but we had to navigate our heart to our hotel in Darling Harbor. We leave at 8:30 am renewed and ready. There was no way that we left the Valley of the way we arrived, since the probability that we did it at the top was 0%. The hill outside the camp was steep enough. We changed our plan and went to the south to reach the road and then return to ourselves along the coast. We had no idea if this would be worse. Fortunately for us, the hill outside the valley was not so steep or so long, although we still had about 10 cars (and a caravan) behind us. The road was beautiful with sweeping curves and huge trees that stand out. I would love to drive that road again, although in something with power. The road to Sydney had many long promotions, so we did not break any speed record. We continue to see Sydney glimpses in the distance. It seemed huge. Finally we spent a welcome signal, although it was still 40 km from the Sydney center to the suburbium after suburb. Emma sailed us successfully until Darling Harbor without a Satnav that was brilliant. After registering at our hotel, we went to explore just to find that, just as everyone says, Sydney is huge! It seemed very different from Melbourne, but there was nothing like walking towards Circular Quay looking at the opera and the Harbor bridge. This is the opinion that everyone knows from Australia.[easy-image-collage id=1036]We spend most of the day exploring places for the eve of the New Year before establishing ourselves in Observatory Hill.Distance: 180 kmtime: 3 hours

Summary

Total distance: 1,033 km Stomach time: 17.25 hours felt like an absolutely epic road trip and one that showed us how prepared we must be. I can’t believe we break without water. While I was just one mile from the road, it felt as if we were in the middle of nowhere. The next time someone tells us that our canvas fell from the ceiling, we will continue driving. Currently, we do not have a Plan apart from Sydney in March, so it is just a case of exploring as much as we can.
