This publication is a complete guide of the always popular and biannual Sunderland Restaurant Week, where you can experience high quality food throughout the city at discount prices.
The usual readers of the blog can remember that they invited me to try some restaurants before the week of the Sunderland restaurant in September 2021 and, now it is 2023, I see the latest offers to the Sinderland food scene again.
Since the last time I was in Sunderland, there has been a significant investment in the city that seems to completely revitalize the area. It is fair to say that I have not been a frequent visitor to Sunderland with living in Durham often leading Newcastle, but, honestly, I feel that is about to change. The city center has many independent coffees, high quality restaurants and is now attracting renowned chains to the city as the botanist that will open soon.
How the Sonderland restaurant week works
Sunderland Restaurant Week is the highlight of all foodies calendars in that, twice a year in March and September, can dine in the best restaurants in the city or visit one of the many coffees during the day and take advantage of offers that save significant amounts of money. The last week of the 2023 restaurant will take place from September 16 to 24.
All participating restaurants/bars/coffees will offer offers, either by £ 10/£ 15/£ 20. For example, it is possible that you can lunch with a drink for only £ 10, take a two -plates meal for only £ 15 or do everything possible for an offer of £ 20 that could be for three courses or something more exclusive of that particular restaurant.
First, take a look at the complete list of bars, restaurants and coffees participating on Sunderland Bid website. There may be a place that you have in your list for a while or you can find inspiration through this article or the list itself.
Once you have made a decision on where to go, I recommend that you reserve a table, since the Week of the Sunderland restaurant is always incredibly popular both among the locals and for visitors all over the northeast.
Finally, and probably the most important thing, be sure to download or print the coupon of the Sunderland Bid website and present it at the restaurant when ordering. Nobody wants to miss this deal, they?
The best of Sunderland Restaurant Week 2023
As mentioned earlier, they kindly invited me to experience some different places before the launch of Sunderland Restaurant Week; A little like a mini-toour of some of the best places offered. While I received food and courtesy drink, all opinions are mine.
The front room
Starting things by 2023 was the cafeteria and front kitchen. The front room brings a peaceful decay to Grange Terrace, a fairly busy road in Sunderland, although you would never know. Once he enters the front room, he is transported to a charming cozy coffee where he can drink Pumphreys coffee (one of the best coffee shops/toasters in Newcastle) and delight with Mediterranean -style dishes and Deli sandwiches.
By £ 20, two can share one of the delicious exchange boards along with a garrison. My favorite was the antipasti board that includes Italian slices, ricotta beaten with basil and dry tomato and Dolcelatte (this can be my favorite blue cheese!). There are vegan and vegetable options (including Mezze’s Board) and, if you want an alcoholic beverage, you can bring your own for a unique £ 2 rate per person.
The tables must be previously reserved during the Week of the Sonderland restaurant and the main preordinate dishes. The offer does not apply on Monday or Saturday.
It rumored
A new and independent addition to the scene of Sunderland restaurants, It rumored Opened in March 2023 occupying the space in the old Function Room in the Terrace Bar. It is rumored that serves perfectly cooked modern cuisine, including the slow stew of stew lamb and the Wellington chicken. Of course, there are also some high classics in the menu. Think of elegant fish and fries and an incredible hamburger with crumbled pig, bacon and a three cheese sauce!
The decoration is also impressive, not what you would expect. The atmosphere roars twenty years with a true luxury sensation.
The choice of food in the rumor has to be excellent and certainly does not disappoint you. From the vegetarian and Vegan menu you can ask for two courses for only £ 10 or two of the menu to the letter for £ 20.

My Delhi
My Delhi It is an award -winning restaurant that serves authentic food from India Street that has expanded the prosperous gastronomic scene of Sunderland. What addition is this! In two separate awards, My Delhi won the best restaurant of the year of street food in the United Kingdom by 2021 and were winners of BBC’s best tasks in Britain.
This is not your typical Indian; You will not find a korma or a stepmother in the menu. Instead, you will find dishes that have simply been torn from the streets of Delhi and transported to the northeast of England. The main menu is divided into some different sections; Street plates, tandoori street plates and put on the road that offer something for everyone. I am a great admirer to ask for a selection of dishes so you can try as much as possible and the street plates are ideal for that.
In 2022, the Gaurav chef and co -owner presented us proudly the Menu and co -owner Gaurav, who crossed the inspiration for the dishes more to expect while we were working on the menu. Things were started with a papadams basket and six homemade sauces that included yogurt from Menta and Chutney de Mango along with a little more spicy. We tried so many street dishes that it was difficult to follow up, but let me tell you this; They were all incredible. So, without any particular order, we had Samosa Chaat, Cauliflor Manchurian, Bhajis onion, Amritsari fish, chicken with Chile, Paneer Tikka and Delhi Tikka chicken.
There is also a good variety of drinks: I had the IPA to juggle, while there are many cocktails, cocktails and spirits. Keeping very authentic things, it was nice to see the Thums (an Indian tail drink) in the more chai tea menu (newly prepared at home) and Mango Lassi.
For the Week of the Sunderland restaurant, my Delhi offers two options with a price of £ 15, option A is the choice of three street dishes, while option B is a street plate, a plate of stalls on the road and rice. You also get a selection of chef’s surprise edges to share for the table …

Grinder Coffee CO
The final stop in 2022 was in Grinder Coffee CO, which had opened late for us inside the Hill Arts Center in Waterloo Place. There is a second location in the Grinder Café in Durham Road with the entire building painted in that yellow classic. I have intended to meet Sunderland to scratch some final places in my coffee tour of the city, so I was pleased to see what we could visit.
Despite being at 9 pm at night and despite having a job in the morning, I decided to opt for a flat target that was lovely, but prevented me from sleeping until midnight … I also learned that the pink portion is a delicacy of Sunderland, so I would have been rude to me not to try. A pink slice has a layer of jam between two butter cookies with the upper pink glaze covered. I loved it, although I am not sure that it makes me an honorary mackem.
During the Week of the Sunderland restaurant, be sure to go to either places, as you can drink a sandwich, coffee and A brownie/tray for only £ 10.

The little sweet
I didn’t realize at that time but The little sweet He had been on the Emma places list to eat at Sunderland for some time. The sweets of the sweets that you can find here are sought from which all the northeast and for a good reason. They invited us to enormous afternoon tea -style cake support full of almost all cakes, cookies and muffins. Honestly, everyone was incredibly good and huge too. There were so much between only three of us that we had to take a full box home. Not that it’s a bad thing, right?
The lunch time special is a good business. You can get a fresh sandwich, a sweet (including brownies, blondes and cake slices!) And a soda for only £ 10. For £ 20, if you really have a sweet tooth, you will get two cheese cakes, two giant cookies and two Traybakes!

Other notable mentions
There are many other places around Sunderland that offer excellent offers during restaurant week. I really like tacos in Mexico 70 (3 for £ 10) and pizzas in Fausto Coffee in Roker (2 for £ 15).
