No, this is not California, but one of Northumberland’s many secrets. Let’s explore the giant sequooyas of Minsteracres.
If I told you that you could find more than 100 trees of giant California secas here in the northeast of England, I am quite sure that you would not believe me. It is time for me to let you enter a small secret and present the giant sequoia of Minsteracres in Northumberland.
Minsteracres is currently a monastery and a Catholic retirement center not far from the town of Piedra de Blanchland and the Derwent reservoir on the Northumberland border/Durham County. Right next to the A68 to Corbridge, you will not believe your eyes when you drive on the Avenida de los Trees de los Secoia de California perfectly aligned (and absolutely massive); 31 on one side and 33 on the other. It is really beautiful and a surprise to see these trees in real life without having to travel too far.
Before continuing, I must say that this essentially feels like a private path to Minsteracres. Be respectful and admire opinion; Take some photographs before moving forward!

History of the giant sequooyas of Minsteracres
Minsteracres was the old residence of the Silvertop family, a devout Catholic family, who lived here in the original house since 1758. It is good to see that the religious connection continues with Minsteracres that became a monastery with the Retreat Center in 1967.
It is not clear when the first giant dry tree was planted, but there are more than 140 on the farm. One was definitely registered as planted in 1857 and in 1873 it was already practically 10 meters high!
We only visited the avenue to go and go down, but that was more than impressive enough. It is worth taking the time to visit the giant secuoyas, I am not sure that there are many places (if you do?) Where will you see views like these or where you will feel so small.
Key information
The giant minsteracres henchmen can be found right next to the A68 in the approach of the Retirement Center (DH8 9RT). There is no designated parking (remember that this is a path to a religious retirement) but we stopped in a small layman for 15 minutes or so to go as a tramp and take some photos.
