A super fast guide from Masham, Yorkshire

[ad_1]

I always wanted to visit Masham in Yorkshire and finally I managed to spend a short afternoon here recently. I loved visiting this picturesque market city, so I have gathered this super fast guide for Masham To help others plan your visit!

On the banks of the Ure River is Masham, both a market and a beer city within the Yorkshire Harrogate district. I have always planned to visit Masham (pronounced Massem) after listening to good things and finally visited recently before staying in the nearby Swinton state.

I am sure that many will have heard of Masham since it is the home of not one but two very famous breweries; The Black Sheep Brewery & Theakston’s. Interestingly, both breweries are owned by the same family of Theakston (after preparing here since 1827) and the black sheep trained in 1992 after one of the family moved away to establish their own brewery after the sale of Thakston’s to a giant of the brewery.

With Masham located a short distance from the A1 highway (less than an hour from my house), it is a perfect destination for those who want to experience life in Yorkshire.

My guide for Masham

Market Square

The Market Square is Masham’s heart. You will find coffees, pubs and independent stores around the edges with markets that are held every Wednesday and Saturday in the center of the square. Apparently, the markets have been carried out here in Masham since 1250, which shows how important they are for the city.

Johnny Baghdad coffee in the square

One of the aforementioned coffees that adorn the perimeter of the market square is Johnny Baghdad coffee in the square. First of all, I have to say how surprised that coffee was to see in the city; I thought that the range of foods offered could have been limited to more British classics than in the Middle East. How wrong he was.

While this coffee definitely covers all the usual suspects in terms of British cuisine, you will find some excellent food options further. I went for the flat bread Shawarma, which was incredible, although I almost opted for the vegetarian option with roasted cauliflower! I would return to Masham only to eat here again.

The curious merchant

We run into this little and charming store, The curious merchantIn a Georgian building and immediately had to make some purchases! Alison’s store is full of all kinds of home items; Unique pieces, decorative antiques, candles, carpets and cups. Basically, if you want beautiful items for your home, this is the store for you.

Black sheep brewery

Black sheep beer is well known and available in many, many pubs throughout the country. If you visit Masham, then you should visit the Black sheep brewery. Unfortunately, we had no time, but the brewery tour is highly recommended, otherwise, you can enjoy beer and good food (they tell me that the pizzas are excellent) in the bar in situ before stored in the sheep store.

Where there is smoke

While wandering Masham’s main street, we ran into Where there is smoke which intrigued me immediately. This restaurant, as the name is probably wait, serves local products cooked on embers and embers. A seasonal set menu is offered, around £ 50 per person, with six courses that include deer meat, roasted shallotes and pastery, pumpkin pastel with mascarpone ice cream and smoked sugar sweet with tea/coffee.

Now I have immediately put Masham directly at the top of the list as one of the best gastronomic destinations here in northern England.

Swinton Estate

The main reason why we were in the Masham area was due to a press trip with Visit Harrogate, where we could experience the outdoor relaxant in the Swinton Estate spa garden, the welfare space of the forest and a stay of ‘Outside the network’ in a yurt in Swinton Bivouac.

Any visit to Masham would not be complete without putting a foot on the grounds of Swinton Estate (The ancestral home of the Lord and the lady of Masham). The park is a must with the wild deer and many walks to stretch the legs. You can read more about my trip to the Harrogate district and how to feel good here.

I hope to update this publication in the near future with more recommendations and more photos, but, for now, at least, I hope you enjoyed this super fast guide for Masham.
