Durham’s best bars and pubs

[ad_1]

Since Emma and I met in 2009, Durham has been my third city of choice; reaching the last behind Lincoln and York. After moving to the area, Durham is essentially my adoptive home, so I will spend much longer in this historical city. As everyone knows, the English like a good alcoholic beverage. In fact, we love so much that we almost have the The highest Alcohol consumption rate in the world. On full weekends they are focused on the nights, but, as I aged, I am much more interested in a drink day session. If you are visiting or live here, I have gathered a list of the best bars and pubs in Durham. Obviously, it is a small city, so the bars are not at the Newcastle or York level, but the crowds here are much calmer! You may prefer!

The city

Located on the outskirts of the city center, this is a great place for an early afternoon drink. I love leather sofas and relaxed atmosphere. They even have a Thai kitchen at this time!

THE BOOTS CLUB

This is definitely one of my favorites, especially from renewal. You can guess by the name that this bar is located next to the water. The terraces have an incredible view on the river to the castle. Relax during the day with a party atmosphere at night, this place is really for everyone!

River whiskey

In front of the Boat Club, Whiskey River is ideal for night cocktails, but it can be very busy! Although I still love this place.

Can of sardines

Gin is still huge in the United Kingdom and here can have any of the 200 gin with 50 mixers while satting in the smallest bar in Durham. I mean that this place is absolutely small, they even say it could be the smallest in the world.

Old toms

Following the theme of the gin, this is the other side of the city from the can of sardines but very peculiar. Absolutely lots of different types of gin, as expected these days, but with the addition of cheese and meat dishes. Old Toms has an outdoor area with another view of the river and the castle. You will notice that the castle and the cathedral are really imposing in Durham; You can see them from almost everywhere!

Steam head

A large pubs chain with emphasis on beers and world beers. This is more a hidden pub in Durham near the bus station, but it must be on your list to visit. Normally we start or finish a good alcohol consumption session here.

Your old elm tree

If you are looking for a more traditional English pub, this is the place for you. Literally, I recently just found this pub, since it is not on the tourist path. It is in an steep hill but really is beautiful. If you have come so far and discover that it is not for you, it crosses the way to the angel. Yes, it’s a rock bar!

Is it thirsty?

If you are willing to have a late one, go to the Walkergate area, where it is the party! If not, and return home on the train, go through the new bar of the station to drink a fast drink.

Well, there you have it. My opinion on the best bars and pubs in Durham, what luckily should help if you decide to visit! Durham can be small, but it is a big city for a small weekend.

If you plan to stay in the north, why not visit York too? There are lots of good bars and pubs that I am sure you will love it!
