On the outskirts of Durham you will find millions of sunflowers in East Grange Farm, perfect for a family day, a night of appointment and, of course, perfect for those photo opportunities. Everything you need to know about seeing sunflowers in East Grange Farm is here in this useful guide.
Return to 2023, EAST GRANGE FARM I opened his always popular sunflower fields to visitors and headed with my wife (as well as Evelyn) for a little vagabund.
East Grange Farm, based in High Shincliffe on the outskirts of Durham, is a family farm with the family that has worked these same fields since 1941. Every year, the crowds go to the farm for their special events; Sunflowers in summer, pumpkins in autumn and Christmas trees in, well, you guessed it, Christmas. To be fair, even though I live a few minutes away, I had never heard of it and normally I am in the ball with things to do around the northeast. As soon as I saw the huge spotlight fields (I’m literally talking about millions), I had to visit.
We visited last year in 2022 when Evelyn was only six months old, so we had to return this year to get more photos and good walk. I am quite sure that we will visit every year from now on, even if only for the little one running!
For photography lovers, the color images use the Pro 400h recipe of Fujixweekly or my new classical negative recipe and black and white image is my punch recipe.
Sunflowers in East Grange Farm
Opening hours
From August 17 to September 3, you can visit the Sunflower Fields in East Grange Farm. The entrance is only through reserved tickets (prices below), but you can choose between daytime tickets with tickets between 10 am and 4 pm or Twilight tickets (only available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) with the entrance between 5 pm and 7 pm once it is inside, you can stay all the time you want until around 10 pm
Prices
For any person over 3 years, the entrance cost is £ 6. Children under 3 are free! This is to enter the entire configuration, so you can explore (and probably miss) the absolutely huge sunflower field and sit and relax in the grass area.
This year, unfortunately, you cannot choose their own sunflowers, but they have stems for sale at the entrance of the field for £ 1; We bought two this year that were much more manageable to carry and means that there will be less yellow disorder at the table of our dining room!
The sunflowers
The field of sunflowers is absolutely huge. I mean huge. There are literally millions of sunflowers with both paths to walk to facilitate access and labyrinths cut through sunflowers. We loved entering the field through a warning, obviously there are bees everywhere. Last year we took a stroller for Evelyn, so those with families, if it is dry, is perfectly feasible, although sometimes it will be a tight tight.
Around the field there are many photos of photos, even an elevated platform that offers incredible views towards the main buildings of East Grange Farm. You can collect a sheet of issues when you also enter and apparently there are questions splashed around the field, but we didn’t really see any reason.
Given the climate throughout 2023, I would say that the field of sunflowers is not so great and East Grange Farm is more than in advance about the difficulties that the meteorological cycle has had on sunflowers. We went to the inauguration and we loved seeing Evelyn to win their trust and run with the sunflowers that rose on it. However, I was muddy, and I’m sure it will be even more, so the more people pass, so don’t be afraid to drink water buttons!
There is not much more to say about the sunflowers themselves, so I have added many photos below, which is expected to be enough inspiration to visit.

Everything else
During the day, you can expect small walks on the fairgrounds, raptors, faces and hot food paint (there is a note on the website that not everyone can be available in the same days). Last year we visited the night, which definitely attended more towards adults (although there were still some with children, including in us) with a bar, live music and firewood pizza. In 2022, we went to the fire ring pizza and our Margaret pizza courtesy of the Two J wood pizza and let me tell you this, they were delicious! I expected the return of the wooden pizza in 2023, but there were no signs of the pizza, so, instead, there is a tent with hot food inside and a gin bar! There will also be a disco for children on August 21 between 5 pm and 7 pm with only a few remaining tickets.
If you are thinking of visiting East Grange Farm to experience sunflowers, I would strongly recommend it and make sure you get up to your Website to reserve your tickets. If you go, let me know what you thought about the comments below.
