New Year’s Eve in Allendale: The Tar Bar’l

[ad_1]

If you are like me, you will have begun to realize that the New Year’s Eve is so exaggerated. Gasting a ridiculous amount of money to stand in a full bar with drunk idiots that contain what, in reality, is just another day. The first day of the year does not suddenly mean that you now need to start new objectives or put an end to all the bad decisions it has made during the past year. You can change your life any day you want, you don’t have to wait until January 1. However, this year in particular, after having returned from traveling, I wanted to do something different for the eve of the New Year. I was never going to coincide with seeing the fireworks in the port of Sydney, but spending the eve of the New Year in Allendale is something that I would recommend that everyone tries. You have to be there as one of the best experiences in the United Kingdom!

If you want to return to a world where health and safety do not exist and you don’t mind being covered with burning embers, this is for you!

Where the hell is Allendale and what is the tar bar?

Allendale is a lovely city located just a few miles southwest of Hexham and Newcastle’s short distance. The area itself is located within the North Pennines area of exceptional beauty. There are hills in abundance, as well as old stone buildings. However, Allendale is more famous for its tar bar that has occurred every new year since 1858! Depending on who asked him, they may be told that the roots of this event date back to medieval times.

The tar bar

Essentially, at approximately 11:45 pm, a parade of 40 villages in the city dress and carry burning tar barrels in their heads through the city. After parading and returning to the town square at 12 in the morning, the burning barrels are thrown at a bonfire along with a song of “condemned to the last one.” The townspeople or ‘stews’ are men who have given them honor. The term ‘Guisers’ comes from the fact that they disguise several costumes and disguise themselves. The atmosphere is great, maybe even a bit wild, with two pubs in the town square that serves alcohol happily throughout the night. However, the atmosphere really increases when you realize that the parade of huge flames has to try to break through the crowd. With strong winds, everyone was covered with burning embers and was not really sure of how no one has been injured. Once the bonfire was lit, my God, the flames passed through the security barrier and almost sang everyone’s eyebrows. It caused a great stampede of people running back, but this was strangely, only part of the emotion. The wind calmed down a little, but I think it really joined the experience!

The details

In advance, I found it difficult to train how to spend the New Year’s Eve in Allendale. It is not exactly easy to arrive and there are few Bed and breakfasts in the city. If you plan well, understand a meal in the Dorado Leon as well as a room. That way you will have a table all night, you can appear outside for the tar bar before returning to bed! Like many people, we drove Allendale around 9 pm after spending all night in Hexham. We fix them to park relatively close to the town square, but the roads will be filled. If you are not careful, miles will be parked outside the city and face a torturing walk.

Here is a small advice, Park looks away from the city to make it easier to get out once everything is over. Traffic was a nightmare. Those who faced the wrong way were stuck having to wait a pause before trying a three -point turn! Apart from that, you really don’t need to know much. He just gets there and looks at the show that develops! If you are not convinced yet, I am sure that the photos are decided.
