Townsville is a coastal city located in the north of Queensland, Australia, approximately 350 km south of Cairns. Often seen as a stop point simply to visit the beautiful magnetic island or the great reef barrier, Townsville deserves a few days of his time. The city offers one of the most beautiful esplanades in Australia. It is hard for you to find somewhere as good for a walk at sunset; Las Palmeras as far as the eye can see and the magnetic island just at the coast. However, between the esplanade and the giant red rock that rises over the city, you will discover some incredible works of street art in Townsville.
I love street art thanks to Melbourne’s impressive collection, but I didn’t expect to see anything on that scale again, especially not in Townsville. Street art in Townsville is very good and is actually encouraged by the local council. The Council has created a path Which will ensure that none of the main works is lost. It was just by chance I had collected the map, but I am very happy to have done it! My favorite was the gigantic crocodile with a turtle in It’s Back (I really speak) with Castle Hill in the background!
Even if you don’t use the map, simply wandering the streets and will run into all kinds of works of art. Most of the work of art is located on Sturt and Ogden streets. You will probably also find new designs as local artists continue to update the walls. If you don’t want to miss anything, I would definitely recommend using the map; Simply download the PDF and keep it on your phone or print in advance. Hopefully the images below show you more in Townsville than only a large red rock and the esplanade.
It is definitely worth taking a look at street art in Townsville if you are in the city and, somehow, it is better than Melbourne. It’s not something you would expect and it was such a pleasant surprise!
